Announcements

As of 31st March 2017, I will be on an extended hiatus. I'm sorry that I haven't written more than I have, but frankly speaking, there are more important things to me than this blog. The fact that I managed to publish eleven articles so far is not testament to my time management skills, but to an idle lifestyle. Blogging isn't usually described as an expensive hobby; it definitely doesn't belong in the same list as parasailing and yacht racing, that's for sure, but Tankograd is special. It takes me months to research and write each article, and every minute spent on this blog is a minute not spent studying, socializing, or working. That lost productivity has been more financially taxing to me than yachting. Putting on the brakes is my best option at this point.

Having said that... You could bribe me. If there is a high enough demand for more articles, I will start a Patreon for Tankograd. I don't know exactly how the money will be used, but the best idea I have so far is to use a portion of the Patreon money to hire translators to translate full Журнал «Техника и Вооружение» (Tekhnika i Vooruzheniye Magazine) articles to English. These will then be posted here on Tankograd for free viewing. I can comprehend Russian, hence the use of "Tekhnika i Vooruzheniye" as a reference in many of my articles, but I am not fluent enough to translate articles in their entirety. If we can achieve this, it will be a boon to the English-speaking tank enthusiast community as a whole, not just Tankograd.

If the income is large enough, it will be possible for me to pay commissions to proofreaders and to guest authors like Mr. Miguel Miranda. This will mean more content by highly competent writer/journalists, and fewer errors in articles. The rest of the money will be used to buy beers. This will result in better quality articles. However, this doesn't mean that everything will proceed usual when the cash starts flowing in. I am adamant on going on a hiatus pending further developments in my personal life, and as such, the Patreon page will not be active until much later this year.

Share your thoughts on this in the comments' section and in the poll below. I will always respond to comments, even if I am no longer posting.

  5. Dude I follow this blog like religion every week I check to see for new articles and I found out about it when you already had a lot of articles so I decided to read every single article like a TV series fanatic. I would feel very very very sorrowed if you stopped posting articles like this specially with amazingly interesting vehicles like the BRDM-1/2 on hold. If gaining income from it helps you do more articles, do it, I would pay to read this stuff SERIOUSLY. Or maybe post less often, like once every 5 months?

  6. Atleast release your current rough drafts of the 'work in progress' if you are going to shut it down lol.

Let someone else carry it on.

    1. I might still work on these drafts in the future, if I have time, and if I get enough Patreon money, I could pay authors do pen new articles or work on existing drafts. Tankograd is too valuable at this point for me to give away outright.

  8. Your articles debunk so many myths, people on other boards delete links to this site from my posts there because it so utterly smashes their beliefs.

If you get a Patreon Account, I'll gladly donate as you deserve to be better known.

    1. Oh, that's interesting. Could you give me a link? I'd love to see what's being said. I am confident in the truth of the things I write, but I caution against using Tankograd as an infallible source, because it isn't.
